(KOKOMO) - A missing person investigation led Kokomo police to find a man’s body in a refrigerator in the basement of a home, authorities said.
Jack Rinehar, of TheIndyChannel.com reports, on Saturday, Rebecca Wolf reported her son, Alex Shipp, 29, missing. She told police that she hadn't heard from him since Nov. 8.
Wolf distributed 150 flyers in the heart of Kokomo, asking for information about her son's disappearance.
The next day, Wolf said she received three phone calls from a man who said her son was dead and that he knew where to find his body. The caller also asked for a reward.
Police traced the calls and located the man, who then led them to a home in the 800 block of East Elm Street.
Detectives went to the home, which they said smelled of a decomposing body, and found a man's body in an unplugged refrigerator in the basement, police said.
The body was later identified as Shipp's.
Police arrested Walter Logan, 51, on a preliminary charge of murder.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Logan duct taped Shipp on his hands, feet and face then went to sleep, leaving Shipp to die of suffocation.
Neighbors said Logan was quiet and kept to himself.
"We don't need this kind of thing in our neighborhood," said neighbor Ta-Mara Smith. "It's very disturbing and very sad."
"I didn't get into a real close relationship with him, but he was friendly," said neighbor Jim Greer. "We got along well together."
