(INDIANAPOLIS) - A northwest Indianapolis family had its entire Christmas stolen after locking away their large watch dog in an effort to protect their presents.

A 27-year-old mother told Indianapolis Metropolitan Police that thieves kicked in her front door on Hyannis Port off West 38th Street on Christmas Eve.

She told officers that the burglars took more than $10,000 worth of flat-screen televisions, video games, clothes and 70 wrapped presents that were arranged under the Christmas tree for her kids. She told police she had spent $5,000 on those Christmas presents alone.

Her next-door neighbor told RTV6 she would typically hear a large dog barking when anyone would knock or make any noise outside.

The victim told police that she had locked that large dog in a bedroom so that it would not damage the Christmas tree or the dozens of presents.

Listed on the police report among the items stolen were a 62-inch flat-screen TV valued at $1,200 along with two other flat panel monitors worth between $600 and $1,000.

The report lists $500 worth of clothes and shoes as being stolen, as well as a Play Station 3, a Wii gaming system and an X-Box, each valued between $200 and $300.
