Shooting Of Man And 8-Year-Old

Last updated on Thursday, November 15, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Just one hour before the south side explosion, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were busy investigating a shooting involving a man and an 8-year-old child.

Daniel Miller, of 24-Hour News 8 learned Wednesday night the shooting happened inside the family's north side apartment.

Police said they don't believe this was a random act. They also said the father is not cooperating with the investigation.

Last Saturday night, just before 11 p.m., IMPD officers went to the Spyglass Apartments after a father and daughter were shot. Both victims were transported to St. Vincent Hospital and have since been released.

Detectives have questioned the father, but say something is not adding up.

"There were some inconsistencies in the story that the victim provided to us so our detective is trying to work through those," said IMPD Officer Kendale Adams.

Neighbors said in the past couple of weeks there have been some break-ins in the community. However, they said the shooting comes as a complete surprise.

"It is a safe place; the children are out all the time. I mean all the time playing and we never had no incidents," said a neighbor.

Investigators said residents shouldn't be on edge. They believe the victim knows who's responsible.

"We don't believe this is a random act of someone breaking into an apartment and committing a shooting. We believe there's a connection between the victim and the suspects," Officer Adams said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
