One Dead After Motorcycle Crash

(TERRE HAUTE) - At 12:24 a.m. Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputies and Honey Creek Fire were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with injury near the intersection of SR 63 and Springhill Drive.

According to the Vigo County Sheriff's Department news release, upon arriving on scene, it was determined that a 2011 Harley Davidson Motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash and it had only one rider, Jeffrey James of Terre Haute.

Honey Creek Fire, Trans Care Ambulance, Care Ambulance, and members of the Federal Prison staff worked on the injured rider.

A Lifeline Helicopter also landed on scene. Lifeline determined that the injuries were too severe for helicopter transport and the victim was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment.

Hospital staff worked on the victim but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Deputies determined that the victim was riding the motorcycle south on SR 63 when, for an unknown reason, he was thrown from the motorcycle. The victim was not wearing a helmet.

The victim suffered massive head trauma and severe bleeding.

A toxicology report from the hospital showed the victims blood alcohol level to be .182 percent.
