Homeowner Helps Police Nab Burglary Suspect

Last updated on Sunday, November 18, 2012

(SULLIVAN) - Quick action by a property owner in Sullivan County resulted in the arrest of a suspected burglar.

The homeowner found a man breaking into his home in western Sullivan County Friday. He chased the guy and called the Indiana State Police.

Troopers stopped the suspect's pickup truck along State Road 63 just south of State Road 48.

After discovering possible stolen merchandise police arrested Mark Dudley of Sullivan. He was charged with receiving that merchandise and is likely to be charged with burglary.

Police say the public's quick action made all the difference. "Without the help of the general public and neighbors watching out for each other, it's really tough to get burglars like this during the day and even at night, so I want to thank the neighbors that watch out for each other. It really helps and it makes our job a lot easier," says Sgt. Bill Snead.

Dudley was taken to the Sullivan County Jail.
