Last updated on Monday, October 8, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Authorities are investigating after a Metro police officer shot a suspect early Sunday morning in the parking lot of an east side motel.

RTV6 reports, it happened just before 3:30 a.m. at the Country Hearth Inn and Suites on East 21st Street.

Officers went to the motel after a clerk called 911 saying a man was armed with a knife.

When officer Tracy Keithley arrived, she approached the man and gave him several commands, but police say he refused to cooperate.

A confrontation followed, and the officer fired at the suspect, hitting him multiple times.

Police identified the man as 29-year-old Anthony Mickle.

Mickle is in fair condition at Wishard Hospital.

Keithley was not injured.
