(DALLAS, TX) - A mother of five who plead guilty to gluing her toddler’s hands to a wall and beating her into a coma was sentenced to 99 years in prison Friday.
Elizabeth Escalona, 23, plead guilty in July to a charge of injury to a child for brutally beating her 2-year old daughter over a potty training issue.
Prosecutors say Escalona glued the little girl's hands to a wall and then repeatedly kicked the girl in the stomach and hit her with various objects, including a jug of milk, a belt and a shoe, police records show.
The 2-year-old girl was later found unresponsive by her grandmother.
Police records indicate glue and paint were stuck to the girl's palms, with skin torn away in places.
The young girl had broken bones, brain swelling, swollen intestines and extensive bruising after the incident, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The girl was in a coma for two days and in the hospital for a week. Dr. Amy Barton, a former pediatrician who treated the girl, testified at the sentencing hearing today.
"This was one of the most shocking cases I have ever seen," she said, crying, according to WFAA.
