Police Investigating Fatal Crash, Lanes Closed In Whiteland

Last updated on Tuesday, October 9, 2012

(WHITELAND) - The northbound lanes of Interstate 65 were shut down early Tuesday as police investigated a fatal crash near Whiteland in Johnson County.

The accident occurred about 4:35 a.m, said dispatcher Gary Lape, when the truck rolled and ejected the driver. The driver died at the crash scene, Lape said. Police were not yet releasing the victim's identity.

The interstate is likely to be closed at least until 7 a.m., Lape said, as the crash investigation continues.

Northbound drivers may exit at Ind. 44 in Franklin or at Whiteland Road and take U.S. 31 north as an alternate route.

The truck, operated by a private Franklin company, was not sweeping the interstate at the time of the accident, Lape said.
