Indiana Conservation Officer Investigate ATV Accident in Harrison County

Last updated on Monday, October 15, 2012

(DEPAUW) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an ATV accident that occurred in Harrison County early Sunday morning.

The accident occurred on Blue River Ridge Drive near Depauw, in northern Harrison County.

Indiana Conservation Officer Jim Schreck says, 54-year-old Daniel Lorenz, of Chesterton, was operating the ATV when he lost control and rolled it into a ditch.

Lorenz was thrown from the ATV as it overturned. He suffered several injuries, including multiple broken bones. He was transported to Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany.

Lorenz was not wearing a helmet or any other safety equipment, nor was the ATV he was operating properly registered.

All ATVs operated on the roadways in Indiana must be registered through the Department of Natural Resources. A valid operator's license is required to operate on a county roadway. Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment when operating an ATV.
