(UNDATED) - State parole officials Monday morning moved Robert E. Lee out of a house where he was living in Jennings County.
State parole officials Monday morning moved Robert E. Lee out of a house in Butlerville, where he was living in Jennings County.
The Herald-Times reports around 11 a.m., two parole officers helped Lee fill the back seat and trunk of a car with boxes containing his belongings, according to Major Jerry Shepherd from the Jennings County Sheriff's Department. He said they left westbound; he did not know where they were headed.
Lee, 57, was released from prison last month after serving 25 years for the 1986 dismemberment murder of a Bloomington woman. He was released Sept. 22, and will be on parole for a year, monitored by a GPS ankle bracelet.
Two locations in Monroe County, including Backstreet Missions, refused to accommodate Lee as a resident. So he was taken to a rundown house in rural northeastern Jennings County.
But after nine days, he has been removed from that location, where he was living with a 59-year-old man convicted of deviate sexual conduct who is classified as a violent sexual predator.
Lee's next destination is not known, but his new address must be listed within 72 hours of the state's online Violent & Sex Offender Registry.
Shepherd said when Lee first arrived in Jennings County, he was told his placement was temporary. He is happy to see Lee gone; his phone rang continuously, he said, with citizens voicing safety concerns.
"They (parole officers) said they were placing him some place far away from here," Shepherd said.
