(SOUTH BEND) - Indiana’s candidates for governor gathered Wednesday for their second of three debates.
Republican candidate Mike Pence and his Democratic opponent John Gregg traded jabs at times, especially when it came to boosting Indiana's economy.
Gregg said Pence's plan for tax cuts across the board was a problem in that it didn't have a way to pay for those cuts. Pence responded by saying in five of the six years Gregg was speaker of the Indiana House, the state had a deficit in the tens of millions of dollars.
Libertarian candidate Rupert Boneham didn't take any shots at his opponents during the debate.
On the topic of the economy, Boneham said the state's tax collection system should start at the county level which he said would allow the state to account for all of its money instead of finding missing dollars years later.
All three candidates said they supported finishing the Interstate 69 extension from Bloomington to Indianapolis.
Gregg talked about his plan to leverage existing funds to raise three-and-a-half billion dollars which he said would create 97,000 jobs.
Pence said Indiana needs to work with Washington to gain more control of the federal money it receives.
The candidates have one final debate which will be held October 25 in Fort Wayne.
