Woman Arrested After Stealing Checks From Mailboxes

Last updated on Saturday, September 22, 2012

(JOHNSON COUNTY) - A woman has been arrested in connection with a series of check thefts in Johnson County.

Fox59 reports, police arrested Amy Jo Doyle, 32, Trafalgar, this week on a warrant for felony fraud. She's being held in Hancock County.

According to investigators, Doyle was involved in a scheme to steal mail from people's mailboxes and then "wash" the checks - using chemicals to erase the "pay to the order" section of the check and change the name.

In one case, the suspect cashed a check at a PNC Bank in Greenwood. Police said their investigation of that case led them to Doyle.

Several Trafalgar residents and one in Bargersville reported similar mail thefts and faulty check charges. The case remains under investigation.
