Teacher Accused Of Misconduct With Minor

Last updated on Friday, August 17, 2012

(BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY) - A teacher is in the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of misconduct with a minor, police said.

Darren R. Williams, 25, a band teacher from a Lafayette Catholic school system, is facing a class D felony charge of dissemination of matter harmful to minors, police said.

Columbus Police Department spokesman Lt. Matt Myers said the girl, who is under 18, is not related to Williams.

Myers declined to explain how Williams and the girl met or the nature of the disseminated matter, because the investigation is ongoing.

The Columbus Police Department started investigating Williams after getting a complaint on Aug. 7, Myers said.

Columbus police contacted the Lafayette Police Department, and the two agencies worked together on an investigation.

Williams is being held on $10,000 bond.

A letter sent to parents Wednesday said Williams was suspended immediately from his duties, pending the results of the investigation.
