Last updated on Sunday, August 5, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - One person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting on Indianapolis’ northeast side Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 3900 block of North Emerson Avenue just after 4:30 p.m.

They found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, who was shot in the head, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as James Allen, 34.

The two other victims, Cornelius Williams and Gerald Beamon, were taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital. Police said Williams was in a wheelchair and unable to escape when shots were fired. He was struck in the foot and was listed in stable condition.

Beamon flagged down officers about a block away from the shooting. Information about his condition wasn't available.

Tia Graham said that Allen and one of the other victims are her cousins and that both are fathers.

"There are 10 children who are afraid of losing a father and four children who've lost one," she said. "I can't explain to you what we're going through."

Charlene Moore, who lives nearby, said her child had just come inside when gunfire rang out.

"As soon as she shut the door, that's all I heard was automatic machine go off," she said. "But I'm just so blessed that it wasn't my baby, and I feel sorry for two guys and their mother."

Police did not release any suspect information.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
