Last updated on Wednesday, August 29, 2012

(MORGAN COUNTY) - A motorcyclist was critically injured when he hit a construction barrel along Interstate 70 in Morgan County on Tuesday.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes just east of State Road 39 just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said Kenneth Kanzius, 56, of Texas, was driving westbound on his Harley Davidson motorcycle when he struck a construction barrel in the road and was thrown from the bike.

Some witnesses said the barrel was sucked up onto the roadway by a passing tractor-trailer, while others said a vehicle struck it and knocked the barrel into traffic.

Kanzius was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis with head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.
