Hoosiers Vie For Powerball Jackpot As Columbus Groups Celebrates Winnings

Last updated on Wednesday, August 15, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Powerball jackpot is getting bigger and so too is the excitement surrounding Wednesday’s drawing.

Officials announced a $15 million increase following a surge in sales. That brings the jackpot total up to $320 million.

Hoosiers around Central Indiana are lining up at stores, hoping they're just as lucky as six friends from Columbus.

The six winners are Tom Brown, his wife Shirley Brown, Glenn Petri, Jane Sims, Martha Conway Risk and Victoria Glick. They all hail from Columbus.

The winners had the option to take their prize as a 30-year annuity or take the cash option in a lump sum immediately. The group elected to take the cash option and shared a one-time lump-sum payout of approximately $5.1 million today. The winners each received approximately $850,000 before taxes.

"I started reading across and it matched and then it matched and you always say, well you know you'll get a couple matches, but then it matched and matched, all six of them matched so I read them again and finally said to Shirley, 'You're not going to believe this but we won the lottery,'" said Tom Brown.

Tom Brown purchased the group's lucky ticket at Jay C Food Store at 4290 Jonathon Moore Pike in Columbus. The store will receive a $100,000 bonus.

If you're feeling lucky, you've got until 9:58 p.m. Wednesday to buy your Powerball ticket!
