(INDIANAPOLIS) - Cadaver dogs on Monday searched the area surrounding a shallow grave discovered on the city’s east side last week.
RTV6's Jack Rinehart reported that police converged in a wooded area in the 2800 block of North Gladstone Avenue on Monday morning, days after the skeletal remains of two homicide victims were found.
The two skeletons, one on top of another, were discovered in the secluded grave about 75 yards beyond the wood line Wednesday.
The deaths of both victims, who are believed to be men, were ruled homicides due to trauma found on the skulls, police said.
"This is a very specific area. I believe the suspect most likely had to have lived here to know how to locate this exact area back here," said homicide Detective Tom Lehn. "I don't think the average person is going to make it this deep into the woods to an area like this."
The cadaver dogs - one from Indianapolis and one from South Bend - were brought in to help search for several bones that were missing from the graves and to determine if other bodies may be buried in the area.
Police said no other remains were found during Monday's search.
Investigators said the victims will most likely have to be identified using dental records.
It's possible the remains have been buried for months, police said.
