Last updated on Wednesday, July 25, 2012

(BROAD RIPPLE) - Emergency crews pulled a woman from the White River Canal in Broad Ripple Tuesday night.

It happened around 8 p.m. behind the McDonald's on Broad Ripple Avenue.

A woman was seen swimming in the water when she went under.

Police say the woman and a young man were eating at the McDonald's prior to the possible drowning. The couple left and a short time later witnesses said the young man came running back into the McDonald's asking them to call 911.

Divers pulled the woman from the water around 8:25 p.m.

She was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital. She was last listed in critical condition.
