Woman Pleads Guilty In Neglect Case

Last updated on Tuesday, July 17, 2012

(TERRE HAUTE) - A Terre Haute woman pleaded guilty to a felony neglect charge Monday in connection with serious injuries sustained by a 1-year-old boy in her care.

Isea Jones, 22, told police she had been caring for the boy in February 2012 when she left him unrestrained in a high chair as the child slept. Jones told police that she later heard a noise and found the child lying face-down on the ground.

The child was taken to a hospital with skull fractures, bruises and other injuries, according to police. Jones was arrested and taken to the Vigo County Jail, where she has been in custody since.

On Monday, Jones pleaded guilty to a felony charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.

Under a plea agreement with prosecutors, Jones would receive an 8-year sentence, with four years to be served with the Indiana Department of Corrections and four years to be spent on formal probation. She would also be forbidden to have contact with the child in the case and would be required to pay restitution to help with medical costs.

A sentencing hearing in the case is set for August.

Prosecutors said that they have been told the child involved in the case is still undergoing rehabilitation treatments, but they had no other information on the child's condition.
