Last updated on Friday, July 20, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis police officers worked a serious accident on the city’s south side following a vehicle pursuit.

Officers attempted to stop a reportedly stolen gold 2001 Dodge Stratus near Harding and Howard Streets around 12:50 a.m. Friday.

Police say the driver, a white female, refused to stop an took off south on Harding Street, before turning east on Troy Avenue.

The driver continued east on Troy Avenue before crashing at the intersection of Shelby Street. That's about a mile east of where police say they ended the pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle east of Meridian Street.

Officers continued to drive east on Troy Avenue, without lights and sirens, to look for the vehicle.

When they arrived at the corner of Troy Avenue and Shelby Street officers could see what appeared to be the suspect's vehicle smoking following a collision with a building and utility pole.

Police say the driver was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. She was transported to Wishard Hospital in critical condition.

Members of the IMPD Fatal Alcohol Crash Team investigated the accident.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
