(UNDATED) - The USDA announced a package of program improvements that are expected to deliver faster assistance to farmers and ranchers affected by natural disasters.

They include a final rule that is expected to result in a 40-percent reduction in processing time for most counties affected by disasters and a reduced interest rate for emergency loans.

Indiana State Executive Director of USDA Farm Services Agency Julia Wickard says this helps Indiana farmers affected by the drought.

36 Indiana counties will be designated as primary disaster counties that qualify them for the emergency loans.
