(PORTAGE) - Conservation Officers are investigating the disappearance of a 15-year-old Portage youth who was swimming in Lake Michigan.
Corey McFry was swimming with three friends in 4-foot waves at the Portage Lakeshore Park when McFry either stepped off of the sandbar they were on,. or was knocked off the bar and went under the water. Two friends continued to look for McFry while one friend went in to shore to call 911.
Lake Michigan in the area of the incident was under a rip current advisory at the time of the disappearance. No life guards are on duty at the area where McFry disappeared.
Helicopters from the US Coast Guard and Lake County Sheriff's Department along with boats and search crews from local fire and rescue departments are involved in the search. They're going back out this morning to resume the search.
