(PENDLETON) - Law enforcement from Madison and surrounding counties are searching for a suspect that allegedly fired shots at officers, and killed a K9 officer.

According to Todd Harmeson, PIO for Madison County Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Madison Co. officers were on a routine law enforcement call in the 400 block of Water Street in Pendleton, Ind. around 11 p.m. Thursday night.

Harmeson says multiple shots were fired in the direction of police.

An Anderson Police officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to an Indianapolis hospital by medical helicopter.

The second officer, from the Pendleton Police Department, sustained a very minor laceration as a result of a bullet that grazed him. He was treated at the scene by medics.

A K-9 officer from the Anderson Police Department was shot and killed.

Pendleton resident Angie Reynolds heard noises she thought were fireworks, but soon she "realized it was automatic weapon fire."

The suspect has been identified as Jim Kenneth Bailey, 59 of New Castle. Police consider Bailey armed and dangerous.

Bailey is described as a while male, 5' 11", 200 pounds, wearing black shorts and a gray t-shirt.

Pendleton residents should remain in their homes while SWAT Teams search the town for Bailey.

Indiana State Police, Madison County Sheriff's Department, Anderson Police Department and Delaware County Sheriff's Department all have SWAT Teams on scene.

The four team response is normal for the region. They work and train together on a regular basis.
