(INDIANAPOLIS) - Marsh Supermarkets will be closing three central Indiana locations.

The Marsh stores at 880 S. U.S. 31 in Greenwood, 285 Morton Ave. in Martinsville and 831 E. 53rd St. in Anderson will be closing their doors.

"While the decision to close a store is never easy, the Marsh management team is committed to improving operating results and strengthening the company's position in our marketing areas," said Connie Gardner, the company's senior director of community relations.

Gardner said as many employees as possible from the three closing locations will be given the opportunity to transfer to another location or receive a severance package.

Marsh has plans to build a new location in downtown Indianapolis, which Gardner said will hopefully be the first of many new stores in the coming months and years.
