Indianapolis Man Paints Lawn Green

Last updated on Tuesday, July 17, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Tim Birdwell’s lawn looked just like everyone else’s in Central Indiana.

"It was brown, it was dead, sun scorched, just a horrible lawn," said Birdwell.

Bob Donaldson of WTTV reports that the historic drought had left Birdwell's grass brown and all but dead. But Tim's a painter by trade and one day, he and his buddies got an idea sitting around the porch.

"With us being painters, we kind of kicked around ideas and we got to thinking about grass painting," said Birdwell.

Now, Birdwell's lawn at his south side home sports a fresh coat of green paint. It's the kind of paint normally used to paint the end zone of any football field. Birdwell just tapes up his sidewalk and bushes and then just sprays the grass green.

"Once we started, we went all the way through it and we finished in about three and half hours," said Birdwell.

He said the paint is safe for kids and pets. He also said it's easy to touch up when and if the grass ever grows again in Indiana. The idea has proven so popular that Tim has taken more than a dozen estimates at about $600 a piece.

Birdwell said don't try it yourself. The paint product is only available to contractors. But he said it does prove that the grass really is greener on his side of the fence.
