Downtown Freedom Blast Goes Off Over Indianapolis

Last updated on Thursday, July 5, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Thousands gathered downtown to watch the fireworks at the Donatos Downtown Freedom Blast.

For some, coming downtown to watch the fireworks was the beginning of a family tradition but for others, it was business as usual.

One man said he and his family have been coming downtown for nearly 35 years. "It's a great time and actually this is a great spot right here to see the fireworks," he says. "I mean, except for the years that we've moved away, we were in South Florida and Arizona, we've been here every year. It's kind of a good middle of the summer break for everything."

The hot temperatures weren't a factor for many families who came equipped with cold drinks to beat the heat. Many also gave thanks to the city of Indianapolis for keeping the show going, despite other fireworks displays in the area being canceled.
