Last updated on Wednesday, June 6, 2012

(CLINTON COUNTY) - A traffic stop along Interstate 65 led police to 1,000 pounds of marijuana, police said.

Troopers pulled over a pickup truck just after 7 p.m. Monday in the southbound lanes near the 157 mile marker in Clinton County.

When the driver and passenger's stories weren't matching up, troopers became suspicious and called in a K9, which alerted on the bed of the truck, police said.

Troopers discovered more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana wrapped in 43 cellophane bundles hidden under a tarp, police said.

The marijuana has an estimated street value of more than $1 million.

Driver Johnny Mark Russell, 34, of Beech Grove, and passenger Armando Herrera, 20, of Indianapolis, were arrested on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana over 10 pounds and dealing marijuana over 10 pounds.

They were being held at the Clinton County Jail on Tuesday.
