Man Admitted Setting Fatal Attica Fire

Last updated on Saturday, June 16, 2012

(ATTICA) - Court documents say a suspected arsonist confessed to setting a fatal western Indiana fire to another inmate at the Warren County Jail.

Two Independence men, 20-year-old Raymond Brown and 42-year-old David Purcell, each are charged in Fountain County with murder; arson and burglary.

The Journal and Courier report the two, who are cousins, allegedly set a May 8 fire apartment building that killed 65-year-old Ronnie Shoaf in Attica, about 70 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

An affidavit says Purcell admitted setting the fire to another inmate at the Warren County Jail. The cousins already were facing four other arson charges in Fountain and Warren counties.

The two are being held without bond. It's unclear whether they have attorneys.
