(JEFFERSONVILLE) - A southern Indiana woman has been acquitted of charges that she neglected her blind and ailing husband.

A Clark County jury found Diane Simpson not guilty late Friday of endangering her husband, Ronald Simpson, by failing to provide proper medical treatment.

Prosecutors contended Simpson tried to hasten her husband's demise because she didn't want to be his caretaker. The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., reports that Simpson's husband had diabetes and lung disease. He died in February, seven months after she was charged.

Jurors heard a sworn deposition Ronald Simpson gave in which he said he'd overheard his wife telling her sister she no longer wanted to be a caretaker.

But Simpson testified she loved her husband and was trying to carry out his wishes not to be hospitalized.
