(GOSHEN) - A computer glitch is being blamed for a billing error in a northern Indiana city that led to overcharges on more than 10,000 property tax bills.
Goshen Stormwater Coordinator Eric Kurtz says a glitch was recently discovered in software used to calculate this year's installment of the city's annual stormwater user fee.
He tells The Goshen News the glitch resulted in an overcharge for about 10-thousand, six hundred customers who apparently own nonresidential parcels of land.
Kurtz says the city's Stormwater Board hopes to send out an updated bill by this fall to address the overcharging.
Elkhart County Treasurer Larry Ernest has asked the company that makes the problematic software to pay the estimated 7-thousand dollar cost of sending out those corrected bills.
