Last updated on Friday, June 29, 2012

(GREENWOOD) - Greenwood police arrested Michael V. Richards, 44, in connection with the June 2 death of his girlfriend, 44-year-old Michelle R. Andrews.

Andrews was found dead in her apartment on June 2 by Greenwood officers who had been called to investigate an unresponsive person, police said.

Autopsy results later confirmed that Andrews had died of blunt force trauma and that her death was a homicide, according to police.

Police retained an arrest warrant for Richards, Andrews' estranged live-in boyfriend, Thursday, on charges of aggravated battery and involuntary manslaughter.

Richards, a former Southport police officer, was taken into custody without incident at Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis, where he was staying.

Richards is being held at the Johnson County Jail on $28,000 bond.
