Last updated on Tuesday, June 19, 2012

(LAFAYETTE) - An inmate from the Edinburgh Correctional Facility was arrested in Lafayette late Monday night.

Lafayette police responded to a burglar alarm at the Macy's inside the Tippecanoe Mall around 10:30 p.m.

Shortly after officers arrived, they saw a subject exiting a side door.

According to a press release from the Lafayette Police Department, the individual was detained and gave officers an incorrect name.

Police later identified the subject as Jacob Aflleje, 31, an escaped inmate from Edinburgh.

Aflleje was placed under arrest and preliminarily charged with false informing, burglary, attempted theft, and possession of stolen property in addition to the original escape charge.

Officers also found a stolen vehicle in the Macy's parking lot that could be tied to the work detail Aflleje's walked away from earlier in the day.

Aflleje was serving a 10-year sentence from Morgan County for arson and was due to be released on July 7th, 2012.

Aflleje is currently in the Tippecanoe County Jail.
