(INDIANAPOLIS) - Officials from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said after this weekend's two drowning incidents, 18 people have drowned in open water in Indiana in 2012.

The number is a little lower than the same time last year, when 20 people had drowned in open water. That doesn't include people who drowned in backyard pools.

Here's how the numbers of drownings break down year by year:

  • 2010 - 42
  • 2011 - 46
  • 2012 - 18
