Daniels To Receive Large Raise As Purdue President

Last updated on Thursday, June 28, 2012

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels could earn more than five times his current salary when he takes over as Purdue University president.

A memorandum of understanding between Daniels and the university calls for a salary comparable to those earned by university presidents at peer institutions, as well as performance bonuses.

Outgoing Purdue President France Cordova earns $465,000. Indiana University President Michael McRobbie earns $533,120, which IU spokesman Mark Land says put him roughly in the middle for pay for presidents in the Big Ten.

Ohio State University President Gordon Gee earns nearly $2 million a year.

Former Purdue University Senate Chairman Morris Levy said he has ethical concerns about the board of trustees setting Daniels' salary.

Daniels appointed eight of the 10 trustees.
