Clerk Treasurer Behind Bars For Stealing Money From Town

Last updated on Sunday, June 24, 2012

(POSEYVILLE) - A former Poseyville clerk-treasurer has been sentenced to prison for nearly six years for stealing nearly $53,000 from the town.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports Christina Lupfer was sentenced to six years for forgery, theft, misconduct, and fraud charges, but will serve most of the time through the Posey County Community Corrections program.

Jail time will be served during her days off from her current job at a factory so she can pay nearly $23,000 in restitution.

Prosecutors say the thefts occurred from 2008 to 2010 when Lupfer forged more than 40 checks and then falsified bank records to hide it from the town.
