Adult, Juvenile Implicated In String Of Armed Robberies

Last updated on Tuesday, June 19, 2012

(TIPPECANOE COUNTY) - Police arrested two suspects in connection with two armed robberies and a third attempted armed robbery in Tippecanoe and Clinton counties on Monday morning.

The Lafayette Police Department and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department took the two suspects into custody.

Braxton Scott Baker, 18, is being held on preliminary charges of robbery and attempted robbery.

The second suspect is a juvenile, so he will not be identified until formal charges are filed.

Lafayette police were called to Casey's General Store on State Road 25W shortly after 1 a.m. Monday.

Police said a white male entered the store armed with a knife and disguised with a mask and demanded money, while a second white male waited outside.

After the robbery, both males fled from the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Less than an hour later, Lafayette police responded to a call from a Speedway gas station on State Road 26E on reports of an attempted armed robbery.

Police said the clerk saw the suspects - who matched the description from the Casey's robbery - thought their behavior was suspicious, and locked the store's door. The suspects then left the scene in a light-colored Chevrolet Impala.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department located a tan Impala shortly after 3 a.m. and initiated a traffic stop.

Police said they discovered a knife and a mask in the vehicle and took the suspects into custody.

During the traffic stop, police said they also discovered that the two suspects were also involved in the robbery of a Rossville gas station.
