(INDIANAPOLIS) - One person was killed in a crash involving a 13-year-old driver Tuesday on the city's northeast side, Indianapolis police said.

Just after 6 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Arquette and Conway drives on reports of a vehicle that had flipped several times and ejected its passenger.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a heavily damaged Chevrolet Suburban SUV and that 26-year-old Juan Carillo, of Indianapolis, had been ejected.

Carillo was hospitalized with in critical injuries but later died, police said.

Detectives said a 13-year-old believed to be the driver of the Suburban is facing possible charges.

Several witnesses told police they saw the SUV speeding on Arquette Drive and that it flipped as the vehicle rounded a corner.

Investigators with IMPD's Fatal Alcohol Crash Team are investigating, but they don't suspect alcohol was involved.

"We're curious, as everyone else is, to get to the bottom of exactly why this 13-year-old was driving. That's why we've taken him (into custody) so our investigators can sit down with him and try to determine the events that led up to this," said IMPD spokesman Kendale Adams.
