Pence Names State Rep. Sue Ellspermann As His Running Mate

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence named
State Rep. Sue Ellspermann,as his lieutenant governor Monday.

Ellspermann, a Republican from District 74 representing Warrick, Spencer, Perry and Dubois counties.

Elected in 2010, Ellspermann serves as the vice chairwoman of the Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee and as a member of the Small Business, Commerce and Economic Development Committee and Election and Apportionment Committee.

According to her Statehouse profile, Ellspermann is the founding director of the Center for Applied Research at the University of Southern Indiana, which mobilizes USI faculty, staff, and students to assist regional businesses and organizations with applied research, consulting projects and internships.

"For 20 years, Sue operated her own consulting firm as a Simplex creative problem solving master consultant complimented by a Ph.D. in industrial engineering focused on the enhancement of individual and team problem solving performance," her profile reads. "Her client organizations ranged from Fortune 500 to rural communities supporting innovation, problem solving, strategic planning, facilitation, team building and interpersonal skills development."

Ellspermann also has previous engineering and management experience with General Motors, Michelin and Frito-Lay, according to her profile.

Ellspermann is a graduate of Purdue University and received her Ph.D. from the University of Louisville, according to her profile.

Ellspermann and her husband, Jim Mehling, live in Ferdinand, and have a blended family that includes four adult daughters, a son-in-law, a grandson and a fiancé, according to her profile.

Pence will face Democrat John Gregg and Libertarian Rupert Boneham in the November election to replace term-limited GOP Gov. Mitch Daniels.

Pence's running mate pick will have to be confirmed at the state Republican convention on June 9.
