Man Pleads Guilty Of Stabbing Man

Last updated on Saturday, May 12, 2012

(TERRE HAUTE) - The man accused in a 2010 stabbing death pleaded guilty to a lesser charge Thursday, just days before he was set to go on trial.

Joe Astrouski, of WTHI, reports, authorities said Charles Decker stabbed another man, Scott Medley, in the stomach at an apartment in June 2010. Police found Medley bleeding in the front yard of the apartment. Medley was taken to a Terre Haute hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Decker had initially been charged with murder, but on Thursday, he pleaded guilty to a lesser felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

Under a plea agreement with prosecutors, Decker would be sentenced to eight years with the department of corrections. Four of those years of that sentence would be suspended. Of the remaining four years, Decker would get credit for more than three and a half years of time served and good time credit.

Decker would also be placed on four years probation and would be ordered to enroll in anger management counseling.

A final hearing on the plea agreement is scheduled for June 6.
