(JOHNSON COUNTY) - An Indianapolis man convicted of murdering a Johnson County couple learned his fate on Thursday, officials said.

A judge sentenced Justin Carter to a prison term of 120 years.

Carter, who was 28 at the time of the slayings, pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of Steven Konchinsky, 57, and his wife, Julie Konchinsky, 54, at their Greenwood home in July 2011.

Authorities said Carter told a friend that he shot Steven Konchinsky in the stomach and demanded money and drugs.

Police said he then shot Julie Konchinsky in the throat and her husband again in the chest to ensure there were no surviving witnesses.

According to investigators, Carter robbed a Fifth Third Bank at Bluff and County Line Road after the shootings, and he was involved in several other crimes following the shootings.

Police said they had previously received complaints about possible drug activity at the Konchinsky home, but investigators said the complaints were unfounded.
