Hawks Cause Havoc At Indiana Church

Last updated on Friday, May 11, 2012

(MISHAWAKA) - Two hawks have been causing havoc at a northern Indiana church where they’ve nested by diving onto some parishioners.

The Rev. Terry Fisher says the hawks at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mishawaka weren't bothering anyone until a couple weeks ago. But he tells WSBT-TV (http://bit.ly/JBxvz0) that since then their attacks have left one woman needing stitches on the top of her head and another with some facial injuries.

The hawks have their nest along the roofline near the front entrance of the church in the city just east of South Bend.

The pastor says state wildlife officials won't let the nest be removed because the hawks are a protected species, so church members will have to wait until the birds and their chicks move on.
