Turkey Processor Scaling Back Southwestern Indiana Plant Plans

Last updated on Monday, April 16, 2012

(VINCENNES) - A turkey processing company is trying to cut nearly $20 million in construction costs in order to build a new plant in southwestern Indiana that it expects to open with about 350 workers.

Knox County Development Corp. director Gary Gentry says Farbest Foods hopes to learn soon whether it has scaled back the project enough to reach its target of $70 million to $75 million for the Vincennes plant.

Gentry tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial that Huntingburg-based Farbest has reduced the plant's size by about 10 percent and is putting off buying some equipment until it adds a second shift.

Farbest announced plans for the Vincennes plant in December, saying it expected to open it in 2014 and eventually have up to 600 workers.
