(GOSHEN) - Two northern Indiana brothers and their cousin are facing state and federal charges for allegedly trapping and then killing federally protected raptors, including a great horned owl.
State conservation officer Cpl. Ashlee Jackson says the three Goshen men apparently trapped the raptors "just to kill them."
A total of 12 dead birds of prey, including red-tailed hawks and Cooper's hawks, were found at one of men's property along with 13 whitetail deer heads and 177 pounds or processed deer meat.
An anonymous tip implicated the 41-year-old man, his 46-year-old brother and their 41-year-old cousin. They are not in custody because police are awaiting the Elkhart County prosecutor's office to file formal charges in the case.
