St. Vincent Lockdown Lifted Following Threat, Arrest

Last updated on Tuesday, April 24, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Officials at St. Vincent Hospital are working with police to investigate a threat made against the facility.

Hospital spokesman Johnny Smith told Eyewitness News late Monday night that the threat was made against the hospital on 86th Street, and IMPD advised hospital officials they should proceed as if the threat was credible.

The hospital was placed on lock down due to the threat, then taken off lockdown at 1:08 a.m., according to Smith, who said IMPD advised that a suspect was in custody.

Eyewitness News was told by IMPD that a man arrested shortly after 1:00 a.m. in the 7800 block of Hoover Road was taken into custody for "questionable phone calls."

He has not been identified by IMPD or charged with calling St. Vincent.

Families and staff were permitted to leave the facility under escort during the lock down, and the emergency room continued to receive ambulances.

The specific nature of the threat was not released.
