(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis police are investigating a break-in and theft at a high school in which a racial slur was scrawled inside.
Officers were called to Scecina High School, near the intersection of 16th Street and Emerson Avenue, a little after 4 a.m. Sunday.
Indianapolis firefighters first responded to an alarm at the school and noticed when they arrived that the school had been vandalized.
Police found that doors leading into the cafeteria had been forced open and that there were "multiple vandalisms inside the school," according to a police report.
A racial slur was written on a board inside a classroom, along with profanities written elsewhere in the same classroom.
"A memorial to a former student that had passed away was (vandalized), and the guitar that was inside that case had been moved across the lunchroom and placed on a table," the police report read.
Police said a fire extinguisher had been set off in the cafeteria's kitchen and that the remnants of its contents were scattered about.
A vending machine had been tipped over, and the contents of a student's locker had been opened and thrown into the hallway.
Police were able to lift fingerprints from a Gatorade bottle that investigators believe was drank during the incident.
Investigators were later called back to the school when it was discovered that a football and locker room annex at the school was also broken into.
A laptop computer was missing from the school, and a video camera, weights, footballs and a CD player were taken from the annex, school officials said.
