(UNDATED) - Members of a quilting guild are angry after donations for Southern Indiana storm victims ended up for sale at a thrift store.
The guild said they donated several quilts to the American Red Cross to be given to the March's storm victims. One of the members was shocked to see the quilt she made for sale at a local thrift store in Clarksville.
Red Cross officials said it was the result of a misunderstanding.
"The volunteer should not have accepted or promised that the quilts would be given directly to those affected by this disaster," said Phyllis Wilkins, Clark County Red Cross.
"If you can't depend on the American Red Cross in the time of tragedy, you know, that shakes a lot of people's faith," said Lisa Thilo, quilt coordinator.
The local Red Cross chapter said it's not their policy to accept physical items. Items that are donated are given to places like thrift stores for tornado victims to buy with vouchers.
