(GREENWOOD) - A new fat shrinking technology has arrived in central Indiana just in time for swimsuit weather.

The Yolo Curve Slimming laser promises to reduce fat and inches without surgery, and the treatments are administered by a chiropractor.

Hoosiers who are considering liposuction or a tummy tuck before summer are perfect candidates for the procedure, according to RTV6's Stacia Matthews.

Back to Health Chiropractic in Greenwood has offered the fat-shrinking technology since 2010, but Dr. Brian Green said the procedure is gaining popularity this year.

"It's the only way you can truly spot reduce," Green said.

Client Jennifer Hodnett said she wanted to tone problem areas around her midsection.

"I like to work out and there are some areas that it just doesn't touch. This actually helps those areas," Hoodnett said.

Green said the Food and Drug Administration-approved low level cold laser has been used in chiropractic industry for decades to treat back and joint pain, and doctors found that one of the side effects was body contouring. Laser paddles are placed on the target area for 10 minutes. The wavelengths penetrate the skin to target fat cells. The system is able to stimulate cells into releasing water, free fatty acids and glycerol. The process doesn't destroy or damage cells, but as they release these substances, cells shrink and collapse resulting in fat loss.

"Women like the tummies to go away and men don't like those love handles. I don't know why they call them love handles, nobody loves them," he said.

The procedure is 100 percent non-invasive, safe and pain free with no known side effects. Green said stomach and "muffin tops" are what his practice treats most.

The number of treatments depend upon how many inches a patient wants to lose.

The laser procedure is followed up with a 10 minute ride on the KI Platform, a total body vibration machine. Patients are then given an antioxidant drink to cleanse the triglycerides which are dumped into the bloodstream.

Moderate exercise and increased water intake will help speed up the process.

Green said his practice has treated students, bodybuilders, even soldiers. The laser can be used on anyone, but diseases like diabetes and medication such as antidepressants may alter the results. Many areas of the body can be treated, including chin, arms, thighs, and buttocks.

Each session is priced about $99.
