(INDIANAPOLIS) - State officials are planning a series of meetings to bring farmers up to speed on new rules effecting Indiana’s largest livestock farms.
The rules take effect July 1 and apply to factory-style farms with hundreds or thousands of animals that produce large amounts of manure.
The new regulations restrict land-application of manure based on phosphorus limits and limit farmers' ability to apply manure to frozen or snow-covered ground. They also change the permit categories for the farms.
State environmental officials will be on hand to answer farmers' questions during meetings set for Monday at the Carroll County 4-H Building in Flora, next Thursday at the Huntington County
Courthouse in Huntington, April 16th at the Decatur County Extension office in Greensburg and April 18th at the Dubois County Fairgrounds in Huntingburg.
