Company Launches Recall Over Listeria Concerns

Last updated on Sunday, April 22, 2012

(GAYLORD, Mich.) - A Michigan company says it’s recalling pizza calzone products because of possible listeria contamination.

Albie's Foods of Gaylord says about 310 pounds of fully cooked, ready-to-eat pizza calzone products were produced on April 10 and shipped to customers in Michigan and Indiana. The recall covers packages containing 48 4.5-ounce pieces of Albie's Pizza Calzone.

The problem was discovered during routine testing by the U.S. Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Neither the department nor the company has received reports of illnesses.

Listeria can sicken people with weakened immune systems and can cause miscarriages in pregnant women.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products or have concerns can direct questions to the company at 989-732-2800.
