Waiter Fired After Generous Tip From Peyton Manning Went Viral

Last updated on Friday, March 9, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A North Carolina steakhouse waiter has been fired after a picture of a receipt showing a very generous tip from Peyton Manning went viral.

The picture shows Manning spent $739.58 at the Angus Barn in Raleigh, N.C., on March 2, and left his server, Jon, an extra $200 tip on top of the included gratuity, for a total bill of $939.58.

Factoring in the 18 percent gratuity that was already added to the bill, Manning's total tip came to $312, or about 50 percent of the bill.

But the server's picture quickly spread online, and he was fired Wednesday.

"This goes against every policy we have," Van Eure, the restaurant's owner, told Triangle Business Journal. "It's just horrible."

The Angus Barn is a hot spot for celebrities and the wealthy in Raleigh. Eure said she intends to call Manning to apologize personally.
